Gabasawa donates medical items to Adamawa State through the Victims Support Fund

Adamawa State meets VSF on round table on Friday 13th May, 2016

Adamawa State Government, represented by the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr Fatima Atiku Abubakar and the Executive Chairman of Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abdullahi Belel, met with the Victims Support Fund (VSF) ably represented by its Vice Chairman, Alhaji Tijjani Tumsah and the Director Operations, Dr Nana Tanko at VSF's Office in Abuja.

Alhaji Tumsah explained that VSF receives donations from far and wide, then converge the donations on to points where they are most needed. He further exemplified such donations as the 40 feet container of assorted medical items donated by Gabasawa recently, which will greatly provide relief to IDPs in the Boko Haram affected areas of Adamawa State.

Dr Nana Tanko provided an insight in the kind of collaborations VSF provides through both public and private institutions to get to the victims of insurgency.

In response, Dr Fatima Atiku Abubakar thanked VSF for the laudable initiatives and strategic support and assured its leadership of full support and cooperation, while ensuring judicious utilization of the items donated. Dr Abdullahi Belel added that the items will be most useful in Michika and Madagali LGAs that were invaded and occupied for a much longer period than others. He also tried to explain the on-going reforms in the State that is strengthening the health system through Performance Based Financing (PBF) approach, while focusing of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with the Minimum Ward Health Care Package (MWHCP) using the Ward Health System (WHS) and PHC Under One Roof (PHCOUR) policies.

It was concluded that the Gabasawa donation be centred on one or two PHC facilities in Michika LGA while detailing the expected coverage with the items. Some of the materials that are beyond the PHCs to use will be sent to the Specialist Hospital, Yola for patients referred there. The detailed PowerPoint  presentation humanitarian health response plan by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency will be forwarded to VSF on Monday 16th May 2016.
