Briefing Honourable Commissioner State Ministry of Health Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar in her office this morning, the WHO State Coordinator Pharm Iyobosa Igbinovia who led the team to her office said the mission of the delegation in the state is to assess the Surveillance documentation process towards Nigeria polio certification, intensify surveillance activities in the state and make recommendations based on gaps identified.
It will be recalled that, Adamawa is one of the three north eastern states hit by Boko Haram insurgency; 8 out of the 21 local government areas in the state were affected by the insurgents activities with Michika and Madagali being worst hit. The state has successfully conducted 3 rounds of Immunization Plus Days (IPDs) this year and 3 rounds of Outbreak response in Michika and Madagali LGAs
Guyuk and Yola North local governments were selected for the assessment at primary health care level, Specialist Hospital and Federal Medical Centres at tertiary level. This is in addition to the office of the State Epidemiologist, Disease surveillance and Notification officer at the State and both LGAs.
The team consists of Dr. T. A. Aheimen (WHO), Tashikalmah Hallah, Mohammed Mohammed (NPHCDA) from EOC, Pharm Iyobosa Igbinovia, Dr. J Jenewari, Mr AU Pella (WHO State office) and Mr. Babayo Jahkanwa ( State epidemiologist), Abduljalal Abubakar(State DSNO)
The team has one week within which to complete their assignment.
