World Hepatitis Day, 28th July

My Dear Management and staff of the Agency as well as PHC workers across Adamawa state, the entire world marks ‘World Hepatitis Day, today the 28th day of July 2021. It is a day observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer. This year’s theme is “Hepatitis can’t wait”, conveying the urgency of efforts needed to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. With a person dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis related illness – even in the current COVID-19 crisis – we can’t wait to act on viral hepatitis.
Consequently, I wish to inform you that the Agency (ADSPHCDA) cant wait. Thus, with support from AFENET, the Agency will carry out a pilot project to improve uptake of birth dose of Hepatitis vaccine among other key interventions. I also urge you all, as frontline workers, to get vaccinated against hepatitis. Together, we shall win this fight against hepatitis.

Dr Sulaiman Saidu Bashir
Executive Chairman, ADSPHCDA
